Objectives of the Project

The idea of the project is based on research results of a former project about psycho-social work with lesbian perpetrators within the Daphne II programme (DAP/2005-/034/W). This project was managed by the German organization Broken Rainbow e.V.

The researchers concluded that the role of the LGBT communities in tabooizing domestic violence in women-to-women partnerships is very important – but indistinct. Therefore, the inclusion of L(G)BT communities should have a high priority in implementing prevention measures. They need to cover primary prevention, intervention and tertiary prevention.

The researchers recommended using an approach analogue to the “community response” which describes local networks and strategies aiming at overcoming a social acceptance of domestic violence. Since lesbian subcultures are a specific sector of lesbian lives, raising awareness for domestic violence and the impact of not naming it on victims and perpetrators may contribute to better protection of victims and may encourage lesbian perpetrators to seek for support ending their behaviours.

Thus, the overall objective of the project is to develop and to implement model-like local actions to ignite discussions within the L(G)BT communities about domestic violence and to contribute to break the silence.
